I would approach it as one foot in and one foot out. Understanding the situation at the time and what was needed by the educator and those involved.

I could help the educators by being an external regulator and helping them understand the science behind behaviors.

The biggest challenge I have experienced with educators is dysregulation for the educator. They could not be with the uncomfortable state of many nervous systems in the class. I did not know what to do at the time other than hold space for them, however reflecting back they were willing to look more into the offering and understand what actually happened.

How to approach it? Am I good enough? Being willing to be vulnerable and get off the pedestal. I love this question and its made me look deeper into my regulation and dysregulation states.

It is available for use for all ages. In Kenya, tools are not really allowed it would be great to see how I could change this perspective.

It has totally reframed how I work with parents, plus building trust and more understanding on changes do not happen overnight for a child.

In my opinion the biggest benefit of the timeline approach is time, you do not need to rush the process, you meet the child/ client where they are at and there maybe many layers to peel before getting the connection that is desired. Biggest challenge is time as well, humans love things done fast and are impatient. To deal with this challenge, I would meet the caregivers and educators where they are at as well and get off the pedestal and work with them to support the child/client.

I think I would meet the educators where they are at, then explain it to them. I would get off the pedestal :). Some educators may perceive this statement in this way due to their own beliefs and projections. Still figuring out the set up…

With this new awareness, I find I am getting curious and being non-judgmental. Thinking as an SPT therapist, I have been able to sit in it and feel it when I am with educators and students. I have worked with educators and children outside their school setting on a private base. But I feel what I am learning can empower all (including me). Looking forward to seeing what shows up

    Hey,

I am Ekta. Based in Nairobi, Kenya. I run a private play therapy practice specialising in Synergetic Play Therapy. I am enjoying watching the therapy scene shift in Kenya especially after COVID. I am a mum of two boys and I love to read. Excited to be here
